Any self-respecting autocrat must have great urban plans. Xi Jinping is no exception and launched during his first term a project as ambitious as discussed: Xiong'an New Town. Located in Hebei, one hour from Beijing by TGV, Xiong is currently a huge construction site not far from a small agricultural town. We are still far from the objective announced by Xi : the creation of an administrative capital.

Last weekend (the 12 May), the First Secretary of the Communist Party visited the site to inspect the progress of the work. to finish, several central administrations, universities and even state enterprises will have to be moved to Xiong'an. Ce weekend, Xi confirmed this goal, in a brand new but empty station. Despite oblique criticisms of the very usefulness of the project, Xi was very clear “the decision to build Xiong’an is perfectly correct.”

As there is no (encore) lots to do Xiongan, Xi also visited Shijiazhuang, neighboring city and industrial center of Hebei. He went to a convention center dedicated to biomedical technologies. Above all, he went to one of the research laboratories of the CETC, a state-owned company specializing in electronics which largely supplies the army and public institutions. The message was agreed: civil-military integration (little reminder about this concept ici), innovation and self-sufficiency.
