20th Congress - the die is cast

The Chinese Communist Party Congresses are expected moments : the punters have a field day and the commentators flaunt the extent of their knowledge. We've said it many times : at EastIsRed, we choose humility and reserve. Thereby, after the "guide guides” of the Congress published last week, we analyzed the speech de Xi Jinping dimanche. An agreed speech, where triumphalism mixes, a feeling of being beleaguered – “besieged citadel complex” chinese version ? – and global ambitions.

We will come back to all these elements in a post-Congress article. ; waiting, let's take a look at the propaganda. The official journals are uniform in recent days. Monday 17, each "a” is occupied with the summary of Xi’s speech to Congress. CCTV, which changed the home page of its site to devote more space to the Congress, resumes the whole speech. It's the same for Xinhua. So far nothing new under the sun.

Mardi 18 october, the first pages are devoted to the activities of members of the Politburo. Each member of the political bureau joint to a regional delegation of Party members for discussions – hear a speech. Xi Jinping joined the delegation of Guangxi, Li Keqiang celle du Gansu, Li Zhanshu celle du Sichuan, Wang Yang celle du Tibet, Wang Huning cell you Guizhou, Zhao Leji that of Inner Mongolia and Han Zheng that of Hainan. The important thing is not so much the delegation as what they say : in this regard, 16 on 21 ont noted the “two confirmations” in their speech (two established).

Finally, several foreign newspapers began to report leaks. The Wall Street Journal base on “sources close to power” and hypothesizes Li Qiang (the mayor of shanghai) as prime minister (!), tandis que Li Xi (head of Guangdong province) would be the new director of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. The South China Morning Post is more measured : talk about change”major” at the head of the leadership without giving specific names.

Waiting for the end of the week, let us be lulled by the verbiage of propaganda, take out the sweets and let yourself be tempted by sports betting. You can send us your bets on the composition you Politburo couple email !
